Shameless plug for Lillian Richard’s Fiber Art

I could not resist purchasing a few pieces of art this weekend, at Lillian Richard’s conclave of artists.  The pieces will remain nameless because I always buy with gifts in mind.  But I am driven to blog because I am always in awe of Lillian’s talent with fiber arts.  She makes furniture look cool and homey at the same time.  She is such a talent.  OK, I’ll fess up… I bought two small pieces of hers.  But, she does work bon commission, and you would be getting your money’s worth just to get to spend that much time collaborating with Lillian, let alone a fabulous custom piece of utilitarian artwork.   A few years back I collaborated with her on some Andy Warhol-style photos I did of her family, and I really should have paid her, not the other way around.

This was Lillian’s Grandmother’s chair.

Touch your monitor to feel those richly textured fabrics.  Mmmmmmm.

The multifaceted Richards family…

You might think that this work is delicate, but I know this ottoman has been used heavily for quite a few years, and with three active children, it has held up and still looks fantastic.  Hmmm. I am thinking she is probably getting tired of this and needs to replace it with something new, and it needs a new home (in my house?)

Deckle Edge Fine Art Prints

I meant to have some sort of special in January.  And February.  You get the idea, because now it’s the second half of April and I am aaaaaalmost caught up.  But I can’t wait any longer to show you my new prints.  My deckle edge print with fine art paper is just as rich as it gets.  The rich, heavy paper takes the ink in a way that make the tones almost velvety.  And the torn, deckle edges make the print stand apart from an ordinary print.  You can frame them to look like they float (on 1/4″ foam core) with some space around them before you start the mat.  The framer tells me that the cost to frame is no more than traditional framing.  But, to set your mind at ease, and because this print is just so cool, I am going to have a little special.  From now until May 15, 2012, I will print any photo from past shoots, or current, up to an 8″ x 12″ in this deckle edge fine art paper, plus I am going to include a frame from the Campania Fine Molding  exclusive to the trade framing company.  You can’t get these wonderful frames at the retail level.  Did I mention museum glass (of course!)  All off this inclusive for $250… print, mat, floated in beautiful frame.  Wow.

And this is What I Do

I recently posted  some of the postures from my Yogaflex shoot, but I wanted to share my head shots from the yoga studio, because they’re not your father’s head shots.  Gone are the days of  white clouds floating behind your head on a gray muslin.  No more distended smile stapled in place below eyes that must certainly be seeing something ghastly behind the photographer’s head.  Often, the Internet is the only way we get to see someone, so I don’t want to waste a head shot on uptight and formal when the person and their work are warm, friendly and casual.

And this is What I Do.  I want you to get to meet the wonderful people that I get to meet.

Wow

What fun, to photograph a Yoga Studio!  And I will let the photos do the talking, but I just have to say that I feel better just having spent time with each of the wonderful instructors at Yogaflex.  I will get the headshots post up in the next day or two, as I am running horribly late in my posts as well as my life.  I decided yesterday that my thoughts summed up my general feeling… I need to get home tonight and make yesterday’s dinner.

Despite too much to do in too little time (Spring Break will be over soon, the kids will be back in school, and the illusion of catching up will be back) I feel in control.  Due in no small part to when I walk into Yogaflex, and the music and warmth wrap around me, and I can feel my muscles just melt into relaxation.  Things untense that I didn’t even know were tensed.  And when I am done with my work, I linger a little too long, savoring that feeling, making me even a little later, but it is so worth it.

Thanks to Mara Healy, and owners Shari Goldstein, and Dena Graziano, shown above.
